Billet/slab export falls at Guangdong province

Billet/slab exports from China's Guangdong province have been highly affected from the billet/slab export rebate adjustment in the last two months. According to the latest statistics data from Beihai Customs, Guangdong province exported 54'000 tons of billet/slab through January-May 2005, with a trade value reaching $24.73 million, up 6.7 folds against that of the same period in 2004. The growth rate in the first quarter of 2005 was 70 folds. Billet/slab exports of the province totalled 14'607 tons in April, accounting for only 50.8% that of in March. The 1.9 tons of export in May was a bare sign of the slump. The major export destinations were Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea and Oman.
