Brazilian steelmaker ArcelorMittal Brazil, part of the ArcelorMittal Group, saw its net revenues in the full year of 2017 decline drastically to BRL 475,000 ($137,766) from BRL 803 million ($232.8 million) in 2016, the company said, while releasing its full-year results.
The steelmaker attributed the reduced net profit in 2017 to a BRL 497 million ($144 million) “impairment” loss.
Despite a declining profit, ArcelorMittal Brazil saw its net revenues in 2017 rise 17.8 percent, year-on-year, to BRL 20.3 billion ($5.8 billion).
The company said long steel output in 2017 was 10 million mt, while steel sales volumes remained stable at 9.7 million mt, same as in 2016.
Out of the 9.7 million mt in sales in 2017, 51 percent was destined to the export market, while another 49 percent was supplied to the domestic Brazilian market.
The company’s BRL 7.8 billion ($2.2 billion) export revenue accounted for 38 percent of the steelmaker’s total revenues in 2017.
Most of ArcelorMittal Brazil’s exports were made of slab and semi-finished steel products from its Tubarao mill in Espirito Santo state. Slab exports were mainly sent to its US rolling mill AM/NS Calvert.
The company’s EBITDA margin in 2017 declined to 13 percent from 14 percent in 2016.
