Anglo American’s 2013 iron ore output down two percent

UK-based mining giant Anglo American Corporation has announced its production results for the fourth quarter and full year of 2013.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, the iron ore production from Kumba Iron Ore increased by 25 percent year on year to 11.13 million metric tons owing to strike action impacting production in the fourth quarter in 2012. During 2013, Anglo American's iron ore production amounted to 42.37 million mt, down two percent compared to the previous year.

Anglo American's export metallurgical coal production in the fourth quarter increased by three percent year on year to 4.73 million mt, while 2013 export metallurgical coal production increased by six percent to 18.7 million mt compared to 2012, registering a record performance.

During the fourth quarter, the nickel production of Anglo American increased by 38 percent year on year to 10,200 mt, reflecting progress at Barro Alto to improve operational stability, despite the need for furnace rebuilds. In 2013, the company's nickel production amounted to 34,400 mt, up 12 percent year on year.
