A recent report in Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera mentioned a possible merger plan between local steelmakers Alfa Acciai, Feralpi Group, Acciaierie Valbruna and Ferriere Nord. The report in question also stated that the four companies have already assigned investment banks Mediobanca and Rothschild to find the appropriate solutions for such a merger.

However, Alfa Acciai CEO Amato Stabiumi denied the existence of such a merger plan at present. Nevertheless, he added, "There have been rumors about this issue for a long time now, but we have not taken any decision so far. I believe that is the right path, and we could be obliged to follow it very soon".
