On June 29, at the headquarters of the Industrial Association of Brescia (AIB) in northern Italy a program prepared by raMet - an Italian steel industry consortium for environmental research - for the reduction of polluting emissions from steel and metal factories was officially presented.
Giancarlo Dallera and Alberto Volpi, respectively president and vice president of AIB, explained the content and timing of the implementation foreseen for the 22 companies in the consortium, including steelmakers Alfa Acciai, Aso Siderurgica, Feralpi and Ferriera Valsabbia, which all together generate revenues worth €2.5 billion.
As explained by Mr. Volpi, the 22 companies based in the Brescia area have voluntarily decided to lower their gas emissions limits to levels under those legally required, anticipating the future imposition of lower gas emissions by European and national regulations. Giancarlo Dellera commented that corporate social responsibility "should be an exercise practiced continuously."
