Feralpi Group to invest €21 million in German and Italian facilities

Italian long steel producer Feralpi Group has announced that in 2012 it will fund upgrading and revamping works at three electric arc furnace (EAF) mills, in Riesa, Germany, and in Lonato del Garda and Calvisano, Italy.

€15 million have been allocated for the construction of an EAF heat recovery system at the German-based steel mill Elbe Stahlwerke Feralpi GmbH, as previously reported by SteelOrbis, while the upgrade of the Lonato del Garda, Brescia-based EAF to an annual production capacity of 1.2 million mt will cost the group €4 million. In addition, Feralpi will spend another €2 million to ease slag handling and improve production of special steel grades at its Calvisano, Brescia-based steel mill. The total allocated budget for these projects amounts to €21 million.
