During the week ending May 8, average Chinese seamless pipe export offer prices have moved sideways, while welded pipe export prices have increased. At present, export offers for API 5L seamless pipe given by Chinese suppliers are in the range of $650-740/mt FOB, while export offers for API 5L welded pipe given by Chinese suppliers are at $560-575/mt FOB.

Boosted by stock replenishment ahead of the Labor Day holiday (May 1-4), welded pipes export prices from China have seen slight rises. However, downstream users are now more cautious. After the holiday, China’s financial markets have moved down sharply, exerting a negative impact on the steel market. Meanwhile, the traditional peak season of March and April has ended and so demand will likely slacken in the near future. It is expected that steel pipe export prices from China will move sideways in the coming week.
