Brazilian slab export price at highest level in 21 months

Monday, 16 March 2026 21:54:44 (GMT+3)   |   Sao Paulo

The reference price for Brazilian slab exports is now $570/metric ton (mt), against $550/mt last week, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades. Current pricing is now in line with levels last seen in June 2024, remaining in uptrend since $455/mt was achieved in October 2025.

Analysts anticipate further price increases in the coming weeks as a result of the depreciation of the USD against the Brazilian Real (BRL) and amid local disruptions in maritime transport caused by the conflict in the Middle East. As it now stands, shipments from Brazil to the US, Europe, and Asia have not been affected by the war.

According to Secex, Brazil's Foreign Trade Secretariat within the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, the country's slab exports for March are projected to end the month with a volume below the 794,200 metric tons exported during February.
