Demand in the local Turkish rebar market has made a quiet start to the current week. The ongoing crisis in the local construction sector is seen to be the biggest factor contributing to the weakness of demand. Due to the sideways movement of import scrap quotations in Turkey last week as well as the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar, it is observed that domestic rebar prices have mostly increased by TRY 8-9/mt as compared to SteelOrbis’ report published on January 10. However, in Turkey’s Karabuk region demand has been lower, and so prices have followed a different trend, decreasing by TRY 17/mt in the given period.
