As of today, January 27, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have decreased by TRY 100-200/mt ($2-5/mt) amid the ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand, as compared to the previous day. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,400-29,100/mt ($545-559/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.40.
Turkish mills have also cut their offer prices in line with sluggish demand and the ongoing depreciation of Turkish lira against the US dollar and now, being even under more pressure due to high scrap prices, some of them are cutting production or considering temporary stoppages. A few mills in the Iskenderun and Izmir regions are already heard to have started maintenance works and more mills might consider this option in the short term under the current market conditions.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $550-570/mt ex-works, down by $5/mt on the lower end over the same period, while acceptable prices have settled at $545-560/mt ex-works, also down by $5/mt over the same period.
One Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar price today at TRY 28,750/mt ($552/mt), indicating an decrease of TRY 250/mt ($5/mt) from yesterday. Another Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar price at TRY 29,000/mt ($557/mt) ex-works, down by TRY 200/mt ($4/mt) today. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 28,500-28,800/mt ($547-553/mt) ex-warehouse, down TRY 200-300/mt ($4-6/mt) from the previous day.
