Rebar spot offer prices in Turkey follow diverse trends, negative demand sentiment continues to weigh on market

As of today, January 26, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have fallen by TRY 100-200/mt ($2-5/mt) in the Marmara and Karabuk regions amid sluggish demand, while rising by TRY 100-300/mt ($1-5/mt) against the backdrop of the ongoing currency fluctuations in the rest of the country, as compared to January 22. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,600-29,200/mt ($550-561/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.37.

Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $555-570/mt ex-works, down by $10/mt on the higher end over the same period, while acceptable prices have settled at $550-565/mt ex-works, also down by $5/mt on the higher end over the same period.

One Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar prices today at TRY 29,000/mt ($557/mt), indicating an increase of TRY 700/mt ($12/mt) compared to January 19. The mill was applying an aggressive pricing policy last week and appears to have hiked its rebar price this week following the rebar sales it concluded. Another Iskenderrun-based mill has set its official rebar price at TRY 29,200/mt ($561/mt) ex-works today. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 28,800-29,000/mt ($553-557/mt) ex-warehouse.

The general sentiment on the demand side is still negative, while the recent discounts on most mills' rebar prices may boost trading activity in the best-case scenario.
