As of today, January 19, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have decreased by TRY 100-300/mt ($3-7/mt), following the ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand due to snowy weather condition in the country, as compared to January 15. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,500-29,600/mt ($549-570/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.27.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $555-580/mt ex-works, down by $5/mt over the same period, while acceptable prices have settled at $550-570/mt ex-works, also down by $5/mt over the same period.
Two Iskenderun-based mills have set their official rebar prices today at TRY 28,400-28,600/mt ($547-551/mt) ex-works, indicating a decrease of TRY 100-400/mt ($3-9/mt) compared to January 15. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at even slightly lower levels than the above mills' rebar prices, at around TRY 28,300-28,500/mt ($545-549/mt) ex-warehouse.
Even though import scrap prices are following an upward trend, most local traders are still refraining from restocking due to the sluggish demand.
