Turkish domestic rebar spot prices fall sharply amid weak demand

As of today, February 5, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have fallen by TRY 200-300/mt ($4-6/mt) compared to February 2 amid ongoing currency fluctuations, sluggish demand and the aggressive pricing policies of Turkish mills aimed at generating cash. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,000-29,000/mt ($536-555/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.54.

Most Turkish mills are applying aggressive pricing policies in order to encourage serious buyers and are giving sizeable discounts for cash payments ahead of Ramadan.

Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $545-570/mt ex-works, falling by $5/mt on the lower end compared to February 2, while acceptable prices are at $540-560/mt ex-works, also down by $5/mt on the lower end over the same period.

One Iskenderun-based mill has set its official rebar price today at TRY 28,000/mt ($536/mt), indicating a decrease of TRY 200/mt ($4/mt) compared to February 2. Another Iskenderun-based mill has kept its official rebar price today at TRY 29,300/mt ($561/mt) ex-works, for one month deferred payment. Additional discounts are applicable for cash payment.  Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at TRY 28,000-28,300/mt ($536-542/mt) ex-warehouse, also down TRY 200/mt ($4/mt) over the same period.
