As of today, January 22, local rebar prices in the Turkish spot market have fallen by another TRY 100-200/mt ($2-4/mt), amid the ongoing currency fluctuations and sluggish demand, as compared to January 19. Consequently, local 12 mm rebar prices in the spot market are now in the range of TRY 28,300-29,400/mt ($545-566/mt) ex-warehouse, depending on the region, with the exchange rate at $1 = TRY 43.30.
Official rebar offers for cash payments in the Marmara and Izmir regions, including İçdaş' prices, have settled at $555-580/mt ex-works, unchanged over the same period, while acceptable prices have settled at $550-570/mt ex-works, also stable over the same period.
One Iskenderun-based mill have set their official rebar prices today at TRY 28,300/mt ($545/mt) ex-works, indicating a decrease of TRY 100/mt ($2/mt) compared to January 19. Sources say several Iskenderun-based rolling mills are offering rebar today to serious buyers at a price similar to that of the abovementioned Iskenderun-based mill.
The Turkish Central Bank today decided to reduce its interest rate from 38 percent to 37 percent.
