Chinese domestic steel section prices have fluctuated by small margins during the past week, increasing first and softening later, with prices now either at the same levels or down slightly week on week.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have softened a little during the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,100/mt ($432/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,120/mt ($435/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,200/mt ($446/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has been at normal levels. With the weather getting colder, demand has started to slacken, exerting some pressure on steel section prices. As for the week ahead, considering the off-season is beginning, it is believed that steel section prices may indicate a slight softening.
