Usiminas reduces flats prices to boost exports

Exports of steel products by the Brazilian flats producer Usiminas have reached 220,000 mt during Q2 2014, a 30 percent increase from the previous quarter, the company said in a statement.

The products exported were HRC (up 57 percent to 82,000 mt), heavy plates (up 28 percent to 66,000 mt), CRC (stable at 40,000 mt) and galvanized flats (up 93 percent to 32,000 mt).

The average FOB export price estimated for HRC went down by 10 percent to $638/mt, for heavy plates went down by 17 percent to $681/mt, for CRC stable at $712/mt and for galvanized flats went up by 11 percent to $863/mt.

During Q2, the exports of Usiminas in volume were equivalent to 15 percent of the company’s total sales, comparable to 12 percent during the previous quarter and 9 percent during Q2 2013.
