During the week ending August 1, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have indicated an upward trend, while transaction activity in the overall market has been slacker than in the previous week and is now at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, inventory levels of steel plate in the domestic spot market has been at relatively low levels. Meanwhile, since the G20 summit will be held in Hangzhou on September 4-5, demand for steel plate from some downstream industries, for instance, from steel structure enterprises, will be slacker due to stricter environmental protection examinations.
While ferrous metal futures prices in China moved on an upward trend for most of the past week, they indicated large declines on the last trading day of July, but then rose sharply today, August 1, restoring the positive mood in the domestic steel plate market. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely edge up in the coming week due to the bullish sentiment prevailing in the market
