Reference price for slab exports is decreasing in Brazil

Brazilian slab exporters are negotiating deals at $495/mt, FOB conditions, for basic commercial grades, compared to $505/mt last week.

Various sources have indicated prices ranging from $470 per mt to $535 per mt, possibly referring to negotiations involving risks associated with customs clearance at regular import tax rates rather than the 25 percent imposed by US authorities.

At least one Brazilian slab exporter remains engaging in double price negotiations, hoping that discussions between Brazilian and US authorities could result in quotas that allow customs clearance in the US at lower import tariffs.

Market participants have noted that higher import tariffs in the US have not affected the prices for other destinations.

Due to higher import tariffs in its main market, Brazil is looking to Europe as an alternative for its slabs.
