Reference price for Brazilian slab exports declines again

The Brazilian producers are negotiating slabs exports at $530/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

Such price compares to $535/mt last week, and $540mt two weeks ago, remaining in a range of $530/mt to 540/mt since August 5.

This price range remains framed by increased domestic demand for steel products and reduced availability of material for export, due to operational problems at CSN, while a temporary reduction of production at the Tubarão plant of ArcelorMittal, due to an incident last month, was fixed and the plant has reportedly returned to operation at full capacity.

Part of such exports are destined to companies associated to the same group of the producers, at prices not necessarily linked to market conditions.

In December, the Brazilian slabs exports are expected to increase in volume from the 229,300 mt exported in November.
