In the week ending May 4, common carbon medium plate and low alloy medium plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have indicated a slight uptrend, though minor declines have been seen in shipbuilding plate prices, while overall transaction activity in the market has been at low levels. Average steel plate prices in China can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.
During the given week, some plate shipments previously booked by customers have started to arrive in the domestic steel plate market, resulting in increased inventory levels. Although some steel plate prices have rebounded slightly, the upward movement of prices has been limited by slack demand. After the Labor Day holiday (May 1-3), more steel plate products will arrive in the market, which will negatively affect steel plate prices. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
