Downstream demand yet to recover in local Chinese steel plate market

In the week ending March 2, steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market have seen slight fluctuations, while transaction activity in the market has remained slack. Average steel plate prices in China can be viewed in the SteelOrbis price reports section.

Since the end of the Spring Festival holiday (Feb. 18-24), market prices of steel plate in China have mostly just indicated slight changes. Although most steel traders have returned to the market, more time is needed for downstream demand to recover. Inventory levels have risen after the holiday, exerting some negative pressure on steel plate prices, while most traders are maintaining a wait-and-see stance towards the market for the time being. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will continue to see slight fluctuations in the coming week.
