In the given week, average steel plate prices in China have softened and overall transaction activity has been at low levels due to the decreases in ferrous metal futures prices and slack demand from downstream users. Bearish sentiment prevails among traders and most of them are eager to sell in order to bring in cash before the Chinese New Year holiday. China has initiated further investigations in relation to intermediate frequency melting furnaces, which will provide a certain degree of support for steel plate prices in the spot market. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
