During the week ending November 21, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have decreased, while transaction activity in the overall market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, average steel plate prices have switched to downward movement from the previous rising trend, with market participants mostly maintaining a wait-and-see stance as regards the future prospects for the market. Since inventories in the spot market are at relatively low levels, towards the end of the week some traders have started to keep their steel plate offer prices stable.
The declines in ferrous metal futures prices in China have negatively affected sentiment in the steel plate market. However, the low inventory levels and higher costs have provided some support for steel plate prices. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways or edge down slightly in the coming week.
