Brazilian slab exporters continue to negotiate deals in average of $470/mt, unchanged over the last five weeks, FOB conditions for basic commercial grades.
After the 50 percent US import tariff, Brazilian slab export prices fell by an average of $65/mt, also to destinations other than the US.
In August, Brazil’s slab exports are projected to fall below July’s 670,500 mt, while imports are expected to rise above July’s 30,700 mt.
During the first four weeks of August, Brazil exported an estimated 400,000 mt of slabs, at an average FOB price of $540/mt, including quality extras. One 50,000 mt import was spotted during the period, at $460/mt, under the same conditions.
Brazilian slab exporters, supported by US clients, are reportedly negotiating with US authorities to lower import tariffs or establish quotas with reduced tax rates.
