Henan Province-based Chinese steel producer Wuyang Iron and Steel Co. (Wuyang Steel), a subsidiary of Chinese steel giant Hebei Iron and Steel Group, has stated that on December 12 it produced 35 mt of ultra-thick steel plate at its rolling and forging workshop. The maximum thickness of the plate produced was 630 mm.

The combined technology of rolling and forging enabled Wuyang Steel to produce plates of the thickness in question, while also permitting a higher standard of flaw detection. Only a few mills in Japan and Mexico have also developed production of such ultra-thick steel plates by rolling and forging.
