World pig iron output up 0.7 percent in January-April

In April this year, world pig iron production amounted to 102.3 million mt, increasing by one percent from both March this year and April 2017, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

Meanwhile, in the January-April of this year, world pig iron production totaled 395.8 million mt, up by 0.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

In April, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 80.35 million mt, up 0.6 percent, with 63.1 million mt produced by China, down 0.4 percent, 6.3 million mt produced by Japan, decreasing by 2.8 percent, and 5.9 million mt produced by India, increasing by 11.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 8.3 million mt of pig iron, up 5.1 percent, while the CIS produced 6.3 million mt, rising by 1.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
