In December last year, world pig iron production amounted to 93.9 million mt, rising by 0.8 percent compared to November and down by 2.8 percent compared to the same month of 2016, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in 2017, world pig iron production totaled 1.17 billion mt, up by 0.7 percent compared to last year.
In 2017, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 916.7 million mt, up 1.5 percent compared with 2016, with 710.76 million mt produced by China, up 1.8 percent year on year, 78.33 million mt produced by Japan, falling 2.3 percent, and 65.97 million mt produced by India, rising by 3.55 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 93.9 million mt of pig iron, up 2.8 percent year on year, while the CIS produced 76 million mt, down 7.76 percent on year-on-year basis.
