Turkey’s pig iron imports up 3.4 percent in Q1

In March this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 140,632 mt, up 36.7 percent year on year and increasing by 43.4 percent compared to February, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The total value of Turkey's pig iron imports in the given month increased by 11.4 percent year on year to $41.63 million, up by 43.4 percent compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, in the January-March period of this year, Turkey's pig iron imports amounted to 336,234 metric tons, up 3.4 percent year on year, while the revenue generated by these imports totaled $105.70 million, decreasing by 11.2 percent compared to the same period of 2019.

In the January-March period this year, Turkey imported 162,705 metric tons of pig iron from Russia, down 36.94 percent year on year. Russia ranked first among Turkey's pig iron import sources in the period in question, followed by Ukraine which supplied 89,481 mt, up 79.92 percent year on year.
