World pig iron output down 2.11 percent in January-October

In October this year, world pig iron production amounted to 95.32 million mt, rising by 1.07 percent compared to September and declining by 3.15 percent compared to the same month of 2014, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 
Meanwhile, in the first ten months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 973.3 million mt, down 2.11 percent compared to the same period of 2014.
 
In October, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 73.3 million mt, down 3.44 percent, with 56.3 million mt produced by China, decreasing by 4.4 percent, 6.91 million mt produced by Japan, down 3.7 percent, and 4.74 million mt produced by India, rising by 4.8 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.71 million mt of pig iron, down 4.74 percent, while the CIS produced 6.6 million mt, up 2.5 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
