World crude steel output down 2.2 percent in November from October

Global crude steel production in November this year decreased by 2.2 percent month on month while rising by 6.6 percent year on year to 158.3 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

In November this year, Asia produced 116.4 million mt of crude steel, up 8.3 percent year on year. China produced 87.7 million mt of crude steel in November, an increase of eight percent; India produced 9.2 million mt, up 3.5 percent; Japan produced 7.3 million mt, down 5.9 percent; and South Korea produced 5.8 million mt, down by 2.4 percent, all year on year.

The EU-28 countries produced 12.8 million mt of crude steel in November, up 5.5 percent year on year. Germany produced 3.4 million mt of crude steel, up 14.8 percent; Italy produced 2.0 million mt, up 3.2 percent; and France produced 1.1 million mt of crude steel, up 3.7 percent, all year on year.

Turkey’s crude steel production in November this year came to 3.2 million mt, up by 11.6 percent from November 2019. The CIS produced 8.2 million mt, up seven percent from November 2019, with Russia producing 5.8 million mt, up 1.9 percent, and Ukraine producing 1.7 million mt, up 30.8 percent, year on year.

In North America in November, crude steel output totaled 8.5 million mt, down 10.8 percent from November 2019, with the US producing 6.1 million mt, down 13.7 percent, and Mexico producing 1.4 million mt, up 1.7 percent, year on year. Crude steel output in South America in November totaled 3.6 million mt, up 8.3 percent year on year, with Brazil’s output totaling 3.0 million mt, up 11.2 percent from November 2019.
