Shanghai Electric Group has announced that its 20 MW ultra high-speed explosion-proof inverter-type electric motor has been approved by Chinese certification authorities. This is the first such product produced in China. Domestic steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel Co. (WISCO) supplied high grade non-grain-oriented (NGO) silicon steel for the manufacture of the new motor.

The largest 700 MW hydro-generator of China, which was commissioned in May, was also made from the silicon steel of WISCO.
