Beating competition from Japanese, Russian and Italian steel rail producers, Chinese steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel Corporation (WISCO) has won a contract to export 25,000 mt of steel rails to Pakistan.

In May, Pakistan invited public bids for the supply of 25,000 mt of UIC-54 steel rails for the country's railway network. Bidding opened in August at Islamabad, with WISCO winning the supply contract against competition from Japanese, Russian and Italian firms. In mid-September, a WISCO delegation including production, sales and development personnel went to Pakistan to confirm the specific terms of the supply agreement and finally signed the contract.
