VSP plans to increase its production capacity

Indian steel producer Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) is reportedly planning to increase its annual production capacity to 10.2 million tons from the current 3 million tons with an investment of Rupees 200 billion ($4.4 billion) by 2020. VSP officials stated that they will submit expansion plan to the Steel Ministry for approval by the end of December 2004. As a part of capacity expansion plan, VSP will increase its hot metal capacity to 5.5 million tons by 2007. In the second phase, the capacity will be increased to 8 million tons and it will be increased to 10.2 million tons by 2020. This figure is 200% higher than the current annual production capacity.
