Venezuela’s Sidor to produce tinplate to supply fishing industry

Venezuelan state-run steelmaker Sidor will produce 800 mt of tinplate in January to supply the local fishing industry, which will use the product to produce cans.

Both Sidor and the country’s chamber of packaging, Cavenvase, reached a deal, under which Venezuela expects to generate some 11.5 million cans out of the tinplates produced by Sidor.

According to the Venezuelan government, the deal will enable three local metal companies to restart their activities: Envases Venezolano, HV Envases Especiales and Dominguez & Cia.

As those can and packing companies resume their activities, the Venezuelan government expects to evaluate their cost structure, allowing them to purchase cheaper tinplate.
