Venezuelan state-run steelmaker Sidor resumed production at its new continuous Tandem cold mill No. 2, as part of the company’s recovery plan that aims to increase crude steel output to 4 million mt by 2018.

The company’s Tandem cold mill process coils that will later be used by the local civil construction and food sectors. The equipment also produces tinplate for the use of the local food sector.

Sidor’s president, Jesus Diaz, said following the equipment’s maintenance it produced 3,706 mt of coils for the production of tinplate.

Diaz said the restart of the equipment will help Venezuela reduce its dependency on imported tinplate.
