Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale said this week it expects to conclude works to protect its Sul Superior dam by year-end.

According to a company presentation, Vale expects to complete its 310-meter-wide by 36-meter-tall protection structure by December. The structure is expected to contain all waste stored at the Sul Superior dam.

Earlier this year, Vale had to evacuate people near the Sul Superior and Sul Inferior dams at its Gongo Soco mine due to the risk of a dam collapse.
