A Brazilian court has ordered local miner and iron ore producer Vale to implement safety measures at its Maravilhas II iron ore dam, following a request from Minas Gerais state prosecutors.

The court decision prevents Vale from stocking iron ore waste at the dam until the structure is proven safe, prosecutors said this week. Vale was also ordered to hire independent, technical auditors to oversee repair and reinforcing works at the dam. The auditors will then prepare a report detailing the actual conditions of the dam.

Vale was also ordered to indicate an escape route as well as a meeting point in five days. The Brumadinho disaster killed thus far 229 people.
