Uzbekistan Metallurgical Enterprise (Uzmetkombinat), the only ferrous metal producer in Uzbekistan with annual capacity of 750,000 tons of crude steel, is intended to install new equipment for processing of iron ore concentrate and production of pellets to use them as a raw material for steel production. The enterprise previously imported scrap from neighboring republics of Central Asia. However, because of decrease in volumes of import deliveries, Uzmetkombinat does not work at full capacity right now. The new facilities will help the enterprise to overcome existing problem with scrap deliveries by switching to the self-produced pellets and processed iron ore concentrate.
