Usiminas says three waste dams have stability certificate

Brazilian flats steelmaker Usiminas said on Thursday three of its waste dams were mistakenly listed by local regulator ANM as not having a stability certificate.

Usiminas said there was an error in the ANM site while sending the proper stability certificates for its Oeste mine (Somisa), Samambaia and Dique Oeste dams. As a result, the dams were listed as not having a stability certificate.

Usiminas said all three dams obtained the stability certificate issued by an external auditing company; the Barragem Central dam, owned by Usiminas subsidiary MUSA, is in the process of meeting new regulations so it can get a stability certificate.
