Brazilian flats steelmaker Usiminas said on Wednesday it has signed a contract to load coke for Petrocoque out of its Cubatao port.

Usiminas said the shutdown of its Cubatao mill in the city of same name in the state of Sao Paulo in 2016 allowed the steelmaker to free up space at its Cubatao port for other businesses, such as cargo handling.

Usiminas said Petrocoque’s deal was the first of several it expects to close in the coming months, and the deal involves loading about 30,000 mt/month of the product.

Usiminas expects to eventually reach full cargo handling at its Cubatao port, but it did not provide a timeline for doing so.
