US wire rod imports surge up 109.2 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 134,663 mt in April 2019, up 109.2 percent from March and up 85.9 percent from April 2018 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $94.1 million in April 2018, compared to $45.8 million in the previous month and $55.0 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in April, with 25,331 mt, compared to 21,848 mt in March and 35,390 mt in April 2018. Other top sources of imported wire rod in April include Germany, with 24,104 mt; Brazil, with 20,118 mt; Japan, with 18,858 mt; and Egypt, with 18,443 mt.
