US Steel announced plans to permanently close a Lone Star Tubular Operations, Electric-Weld Pipe Mill in Lone Star, Texas.  The company says the move will shut down a portion of the plant. The rest of the plant will continue operations as normal.

US Steel advised the United Steelworkers of the company's proposed intent to permanently close the Lone Star Tubular Operations, Electric-Weld Pipe Mill in Texas and the Lorain Tubular Operations, Seamless Pipe Mill in Ohio earlier this month.  The two facilities manufacture tubular products primarily for the energy industry.  Both operating lines have been idled for an extended period (Lorain #4 since April 2015 and Lone Star #1 since March 2016).  As the lines have been idle, no active employees will be affected.

Per US Steel, market conditions will continue to determine the operating status of other tubular operations, including other parts of the Lone Star tubular operations.
