US Steel to temporarily halt production at its Texas plant

According to papers filed with the Texas Workforce Commission, US Steel will temporarily stop production at its steel tube and manufacturing plant distributing plant in Lone Star, Texas, idling up to 1,200 union and salaried employees.

As to when the plant may begin to resume production again, US Steel spokesman, John Armstrong, said in a news statement for Thursday broadcasts, "We continue to adjust our work force to keep pace with customer orders. We can't see the future and can't predict when things might improve."

Randy Dean, president of Local 4134 of the United Steelworkers of America, told the press that US Steel is planning on halting production at the end of February.

US Steel's Lone Star plant had already laid off 240 employees since early January, due to declining orders.
