US sends new exemption list to European Commission

July 19, 2002 Friday was previously determined for the EU commission to report the latest status of negotiations with the US authorities with regard to the product exclusions. Upon receipt of this report the Council is scheduled to determine whether to go ahead with the retaliatory tariffs or not. Yet the latest news reveal that EU is giving signs to postpone this deadline of determination on retaliatory tariffs and wait at least until begining of Septemer, the period of time given by the US authorities for the completion of the product exclusion process. According to latest reports the US sent to European Commission a new list of products exempted from S201 tariffs. The Commission is currently reviewing the list in order to see whether same complies with the compensation expectations of the EU. As per Wall Steet Journal report, the Commission will discuss this delay issue during a meeting to be held in Brussels today.
