US rig count sees steep drop week-on-week while Canadian count edges upward

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending May 12, 2023, the US rotary rig count declined by 17 rigs, to 731.

The number of rigs drilling for gas declined by 16 to 141, while the number of rigs drilling for oil declined by two to 586. The overall US rig count is up by 17 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by one to 94 rigs in the week ending May 12. The Canadian rig count is up by six rigs compared to the same reporting period last year.
