US rig count climbs as Canadian count falters

Baker Hughes reported that for the week ending August 8 the US rig count increased by 19 to 1,908, following a six-rig increase the week before. The rig count is still up by 130 from 1,778 rigs during the same week a year ago. The gas rig count decreased by three to 316, whereas the oil rig count increased by 15 to 1,588.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by five in the week ending August 1 to reach 387 following a three-rig decrease the previous week. The Canadian rig count is now up 29 from 358 rigs during the same week a year ago.
