US raw steel production rises

According to data released from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), domestic raw steel production rose to 2.086 million net tons (nt) during the week ending September 30, 2006. This was a 0.4 percent increase from the previous week, in which 2.077 million nt were produced, and a 4.4 percent increase from the same week in 2005. Year-to-date net tonnage as of September 30, 2006 was 80.9 million nt compared to 76.5 million nt as of September 30, 2005. The districts that produced the most raw steel as of September 30, 2006 was the Southern district and the Indiana/Chicago district producing 656,000 nt and 538,000 nt respectively.
