US raw steel production increases
According to data released this week by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), domestic raw steel production rose to 2.108 million net tons during the week ended June 17, 2006. This is a net increase from the previous week, in which 1.829 million net tons were produced, and an increase from the same week the previous year, in which 2.076 million net tons were produced. The regions that produced the most steel during the week ended June 17, 2006 were the Southern District, which produced 631,000 mt, and the Indiana/Chicago district, which produced 569,000 mt.
