US OCTG imports surge up 148.5 percent in January

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of oil country tubular goods (OCTG) totaled 299,790 mt in January 2019, surging up 148.5 percent from December but down 10.8 percent from January 2018 levels. By value, OCTG imports totaled $343.0 million in January 2018, compared to $143.5 million in the previous month and $346.7 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most OCTG from Korea in January, with 70,742 mt, compared to 472 mt in December and 113,520 mt in January 2018. Other top sources of imported OCTG in January include Russia, with 44,108 mt; Mexico, with 32,993 mt; Taiwan, with 24,772 mt; Austria, with 17,993 mt; and Brazil, with 16,354 mt.
