US and Canadian rig counts show vacillating trends

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending October 17 the US rig count decreased by 12 to 1,918, following an eight-rig increase the week before. The gas rig count increased by eight to 328, whereas the oil rig count decreased by 19 to 1,590. The overall rig count is still up by 179 from 1,739 rigs during the same week a year ago.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by three in the week ending October 17 to reach 417 following a 10-rig decrease the previous week. The Canadian rig count is still up 29 from 388 rigs during the same week a year ago.
